SFW - Bare Naked App

No, it’s not a Getting Real, Less is More, Ruby on Rails version of a porn portal (although that would be pretty interesting…), it’s a weblog devoted to documenting the building of Carson Systemsnext web app. It’s been up for a while (I just hadn’t noticed it until now), so there’s already a lot of good content up there, including discussions on how they came up with the name and logo, how they settled on a freelane developer (next time, don’t forget MissingMethod!) and other important business decisions.

Aside from being a good resource for other entrepreneurs who are thinking of building a web app, I like how the blog serves as a good, honest buzz-builder for an application that doesn’t even exist yet. It’s helping to seed some hype for their application in a way that isn’t sleazy or gimmicky. From marketing perspective I think it’s brilliant.

Why? Well, those first few days after you launch an app are really important. Building a critical mass of buzz/interest can make or break your site, especially if it’s one of those newfangled Web2.0/Tagging/SocialNetworking thingies. These days, with more new and interesting Web2.0 apps coming out than you can shake a stick at, it’s tremendously important to start marketing your site before it launches. The success of the 37signals apps proves that; and they pre-market like none other.

So head over to BareNakedApp.com and watch Ryan Carson’s tool grow. His web app, I mean.

Thanks for letting your readers know about BNA. I appreciate your comments about it being an honest excercise - because that’s exactly what we’re going for.

Thanks again.
